Mint-X® Best Practices
We’re passionate about keeping wildlife pests out of your trash to give our customers more peace of mind in managing a home. Our experts have come up with a list of amazing tips to make our trash bags even more effective.
The Proof is in The Pudding (and the Lab)
Mint-X® trash bags have been rigorously tested and proven to work in both lab and natural environments, so you can rest assured that they’ll work for you too!
Repetition is Key
They will learn that your trash is now the one that smells of terrible mint… and they learn to stay away.
The Mint-X® Trash Bags have been proven to reduce animal torn bags after one week of repetitive usage. If you just bought Mint-X® Trash bags and noticed that your bags were still torn into after the first night of usage, it’s OK that is normal. Continue using the Mint-X® bags. The curious rodents will soon learn to stay away from the Mint-X® bags altogether.
Why Double-Bag?
Larger, more aggressive rodents have the ability to tear through the trash bins and containers so as you can imagine, they’ll potentially do damage to anything that’s standing in the way of their dinner. These rodents’ hands are generally farther away from their nose so that they can swipe at the trash without having to get too close to it. Current Mint-X® users have told us that they’ve solved this issue by double bagging the trash the first week or two of usage, using a “fresh” bag right out of the box when the trash is left for collection. Double bagging the trash with a “fresh” Mint-X® Trash Bag ensures that these rodents will have to go through twice the effort to get through the Mint-X® force field, and they will learn to stay away from your trash faster. After the first week or two you can resume single bag usage.
Rodents are creatures of habit. This is the very reason why your trash gets torn into by the same rodents every night. Just as they learned that your house/property is the one.
Use only Mint-X® Rodent Repellent Trash Bags
When putting out the trash, be sure to use only Mint-X® Trash Bags. It is important not to commingle with other, non- Mint-X® Trash Bags. Rodents are famous for going into “feeding frenzies”. A. “Feeding Frenzy”, as it applies to trash bags, is when a group of rodents enter in a state of blind, aggressive eating. These feeding frenzies spread food everywhere and potentially reduce the effectiveness of the Mint-X® Trash Bags. Use only Mint-X® Trash Bags to create a force field around your garbage.
Clean out any trash container or storage area before using Mint-X®
The scent of food residue lingers in your trash container long after humans are able to smell it. By cleaning out your trash containers, you will ensure that the scent of food that sticks to the walls of the trash container does not rub off into the Mint-X® bag, thus defeating the purpose of the mint scent. This is one more step to achieve best results.
For best results, Mint-X® Bags should be used within 5 days of removing bags from Box
Like any scented product, the strength of the scent dissipates over time. Therefore, it is important to place the bag outside while the scent is the strongest. The time from bag removal from the box to trash pickup should not exceed 5 days, but the shorter the time period, the better the results. If the scent has weakened, put the bag into a “fresh” Mint-X® bag right out of the box, to ensure the potency of the scent.
Bait & Snap Traps
Using only the Mint-X® Trash Bags as a means to solving your rodent problem will not work. The Mint-X® Trash bag is an extremely effective tool for keeping rodents from tearing into your trash but additional measures need to be taken to ensure that the rodents are gone for good. The primary goal of the Mint-X® Trash Bag is to cut off the human food source and drive rodents to find alternative food sources such as bait and snap traps.
The 3 Biggest Mistakes Food Businesses Make
Do you remember the day when you made the decision that one day you wanted to own your own restaurant?
You wanted to have a busy, clean restaurant and kitchen, which you would be proud of, employ motivated and valuable staff, preparing the best meals and making money along the way. Well here a 3 things to help propel that dream!
The scariest thing that can happen to any food business owner is to lose their business either by Food Safety breaches and heavy government fines. Or worse still, to lose their repeat customers due to shortfalls in food and pest hygiene, which is so easily captured these days by smart phones and shared on social media.
Attention to Pest Hygiene – Particularly Cockroaches in the Kitchen
Most businesses take pride in keeping a clean restaurant and a clean kitchen for their customers to enjoy the great food that is served in their restaurant or café. however, managing the ongoing challenges of getting rid of cockroaches, rats and other pests, which are attracted to food waste is a long standing problem … until now!
Continuing to use normal garbage bags is like saying I don’t need to adopt new technology like a smart phone because there is nothing wrong with my landline phone. Innovation and technology means that food businesses, like every other business, need to adopt the smart tools to make their operations run more smoothly and ensure their customers keep coming back to produce a thriving business.
Cleanliness
Cleanliness is the cornerstone of every successful food business as ensuring customers do not get food poisoning is a key consideration for a restaurant owner and manager. And while most food businesses work hard to keep their kitchen clean, it makes it very difficult for kitchen staff to take this seriously when they regularly see the occasional cockroach in the kitchen at night, while the lights are still on and the kitchen is busy and staff are preparing meals. While your staff might not say it, they will be imagining “what the hell is happening in the kitchen when the lights are off at night and all the staff have gone home?” The cockroaches would be free to roam over every centimeter of your stainless steel kitchen!
Eliminating Garbage Stench and Improving Staff Attitude
Did you know that large businesses spend a fortune on consultants trying to help them to find a way to motivate their staff to comply to work procedures and how to reward their staff without using money? After all, your staff are the key to your success and wealth, in order to reward you for the long hours you work week after week.
